Personal Development Planning Assignment - Reflective Summary
Assessment Details - This Reflective Summary will develop the following skills:
Analytical skills: The reflection report enables the students to analyse and evaluate the benefits of the different activities done in the class. This skill will eventually help them evaluate options necessary to make decisions in the workplace.
Research skills: The students need to provide references for their reflective task and this requires them to search information from various sources. This will enable students to practice and exhibit their note taking, paraphrasing and summarizing skills. These skills will help them in their future chosen career.
In addition, the assessment will test the following learning outcomes:
1. Identify their own learning style and preferences and apply self-management and independent learning strategies to support their study at HE level 4; they must also take ownership of their work through responsible maintenance of individual e-portfolios of uploaded work, reflective logs and employability logs.
2. Devise and monitor an action plan for their personal development based on their awareness of the key aspects of employability, also developing appropriate and accurate evidence to support their progress.
3. Undertake appropriate research tasks and develop an appropriate academic writing style.
Assessment Task -
You must write a reflection of your personal development plan upon learning PDP module, the skills you developed or will further develop and the impact of these on your future and career goals.
You must read these instructions carefully before attempting this assignment. All of the instructions below are reflected in the marking criteria. Your assignment should contain FIVE parts:
a. Introduction (200-250 words)
Define employability skills (provide citation) and discuss importance / significance of employability skills in general.
b. Personal Analysis (900-950 words)
Conduct a personal analysis of yourself and an analysis of current situation. What are your strengths and weaknesses? What external opportunities or threats might affect any plans you might make? It should include a complete analysis of your current situation. Your discussion should focus on the following important points:
- Describe your future chosen career. Identify your four strongest employability skills (These must be related to your future chosen career). Show with evidence how you have developed these skills.
- Identify four employability skills that you need to develop for the future.
- Discuss the threats and opportunities that might affect your plan.
- Discuss about the classroom experience and the current sources available to you to improve your employability skills.
Development Plan (850-900 words)
This part should include a plan about improving your employability skills. It should include a course of action and a timeline. Focus on the following points:
- Produce a plan for the employability skills which need to be developed further (refer to the four employability skills that you have mentioned earlier in personal analysis section). Your plan should include a time line and how you will address these development needs.
- Discuss the role of class room activities in developing your employability skills (you can refer to group activities, oral presentations, guest speaker session etc.).
- Discuss the role of other challenges which helped you to develop your employability skills (refer to the various challenges that you experienced in your personal, academic and professional life in the current semester)
d. Role of Employability Skills in the Career Success (650-700 words)
In this section, discuss the role of employability skills in the career success. Following points should be part of your discussion:
- The role of employability skills in the career success (provide evidence of research).
- Discuss what role acquisition of employability skills can play in your career development and career success.
e. Conclusion (150-200 words)
- Summarise the above discussion and provide a conclusion.
f. References
You must use at least FIVE latest (Published after 2008) academic sources. Include proper in-text citation and a reference list at the end of your assignment. You have to follow the Harvard referencing style.
