Optional Assignment
Critical Commentary on Your Chosen Businesss Book
Your assignment is to read the ENTIRE business book you have chosen and write a critical commentary on your book. A critical commentary examines and analyzes the ideas and concepts put forward in the book and supports such commentary with fact or reason. You may agree or disagree with your author, but you must support and defend the position that you take. Remember that it is impossible to comment on another's position unless you first understand that position. A commentary is NOT a summary of a book, nor is it a book report. Please do NOT produce a book report.
The following criteria is relied upon in grading the comment:
1. The commentary must show evidence that you have read the entire book and understand the concepts put forward. This evidence is manifested b the way you show understanding of the scope of your chosen business book. Although you may choose not to discuss all concepts in equal depth, you must still show evidence of understanding of the "package" put forward in your book. If it is concluded that the entire book was not read, a grade of zero may be assigned, regardless of what you have submitted. (I urge you to avoid the temptation to take shortcuts. Consider how such actions reflect upon your character, that which is at the heart of success as an entrepreneur).
2. Your submission must not be a book report (a summary of the book). Your commentary should include your analysis and opinion on concepts raised in the book supported by personal examples or observation or reason. Commenting on our experimentation with the concepts and ideas in your in your books is a most credible basis for analysis. Why or why not did you like this book. You do not have to like the book you have chosen, however, if this is so, you must support why you do not like your book.
3. You may comment on the concepts in the book as they relate to entrepreneurship, business in general, life in general, or to you as a person. Choose your own approach so long as you satisfy the above guidelines.
4. The submission should be 5 pages. Anything less than 5 pages would generally indicate a lack of sufficient depth.
