To design an expert system, we must first identify a problem to be solved that is some what qualitative (fuzzy, not purely quantitative). The problem must be important and difficult enough to warrant development of an ES, and there must be an existing, cooperative expert who will willingly attempt to define his or her own thinking process. What problems can you think of in your own worklife that may warrant the development of an expert system?

Evaluate this statement: "Quality of life, both at work and at home, is likely to improve as a result of management support systems." Do you agree or disagree? What would you consider to be ethical issues in using an expert system to diagnose illness, to approve mortgages, or to evaluate job candidates?
