Question

1. Upper management institutes a policy that all staff should remain in their work areas in an effort to increase productivity. They feel too much time is wasted on small talk.

2. The manager for a heat pump service company wants his crews to increase their output by 10% and sends out an email to each crew with their new goal. The methods to achieve the increase are left up to each crew.

3. A vice-president, in from the corporate headquarters, takes a tour of the manufacturing floor. She notices that control charts tracking product dimensions are posted up in common areas in all the workstations. The local plant manager informs her they are for tracking progress in minimizing defects. After the tour, she writes a memo to all line managers to remove the control charts from the production areas so workers won't concentrate on the defects.

4. Mike McGillicutty is the vice-president of manufacturing. His reputation is one for meeting deadlines no matter what the cost which has earned him the knick-name of "Mean Mike" among the production workers. Recently, a large order has come in and Mike has been hounding the leads in the work areas to meet this deadline - or else there will be firings.
