Question 1. Black Americans have excelled in the area of music. Ragtime, Jazz, blues, Rock n Roll, and Gospel all originate from black Americans.

Do you believe that the oppression that blacks faced throughout their history could have helped to foster a more creative spirit within the race? Explain your response.

Question 2. African Americans were discriminated against when they fought for their country in the Spanish American War in 1895 and at the end segregation continued. Just about 22 years later, in 1917 black leaders encouraged African American involvement in World War I. Again they were discriminated against in the military, and when the war was over, segregation continued. Just about 26 years later, again African Americans fought for their country in World War II. They were accepted by the French people as equals but were discriminated against by the fellow white soldiers. And when the war was over, again, they came home to segregation. Why would African Americans continue to be loyal to the country under such circumstances? Why did it take so long for the country's leaders to see the wrong in all this?
