Question: Why is Frederick Douglass' Narrative such a powerful attack on slavery? What do you think made it so effective in the 19th century? In other words, what are some of the themes he develops to make his case? Give plenty of specific examples to support your answer from both the "preface" by William Lloyd Garrison and the text of the Narrative by Douglass.

The essay must be typed (double-spaced), at least 4 pages in length, and conform to standard rules of grammar and organization. Remember, this is not a research paper on Douglass, so you are not to use any outside sources.
