Case Study Carly is a LPN nursing student. She recently studied spirituality and nursing, and it started her thinking about the topic and her personal life. She was raised in a Lutheran church which she still attends sporadically due to work.

Carly's grandmothers are both in their mid-60s. Her father's mother is very religious; is a member of a Baptist church, attending services every Wednesday evening and Sunday morning. She also volunteers with cleaning of the church and maintaining flowers outside the building. This grandmother disapproves of people who drink alcohol or smokes, she only listens to church hymns, and does not approve of Carly and her sister's choice of clothing.

Carly's maternal grandmother does not attend a place of worship, but is the kindest person Carly has ever known. She helps at a homeless shelter, has friends from "all walks of life," and has a wonderful sense of humor. Meditation is a regular part of her life and she has a love for all things associated with nature. She lives in a very small home, sparsely furnished, and jokes about being a "low maintenance woman."
