Why do we punish? Using a comparative example and theories studied in this subject, discuss. how and why the goals of punishment might vary in different national and cultural contexts?

How would I do this essay discussing Retributive justice in the United States, the Utilitarian approach in Scandinavia, and restorative justice in Indigenous Australian Communities with at least 6 references? Feedback I got last time was that my argument was vague, and needed specific evidence and further use of theoretical frameworks such as Durkheim.
