Reflect on the leadership style employed in your practicum site. Describe an example of a situation in which you have witnessed transformational leadership in your practicum site.
The primary goal of transformational leadership is to inspire positive change to those who follow (Transformational Leadership, 2024). At my practicum site, this form of leadership is commonly utilized among everyone and intern I've had the opportunity to witness transformational leadership at my practicum site during a group supervision session. For example, one of the LCSW supervisees at the agency presented a PowerPoint presentation on Bipolar I and Bipolar II. During her presentation there was confusion about the criteria for both disorders (specifically the timeframes: preceded, current or past episodes of hypomania and depressive disorders for bipolar disorders).
What was it about that situation that constituted transformational leadership?
The situation constituted transformational leadership as the LCSW supervisee took the time to guide the group through the criteria process. She took control of the session and conveyed a clear explanation of both disorders while using a hopeful communication style. Her inspirational demeanor allowed the group to gain understanding of the criteria of both Bipolar I and Bipolar II.
