Problem

in Setting Aspirations identify a simple two-dimensional chart. Along the bottom is Strategic (Head), and along the left is Motivational (Heart). Each dimension runs from low to high, so from low to high motivation and from low to high strategic alignment.

Undoubtedly, it is ideal to be high on both dimensions. To have a strategy that is well defined and informs all key decisions going forward and to have individual employees' aspirations fully aligned with the aspirations of the company would be a great way to improve the success of any company.

But what if you had to make a trade-off? Let's assume that you are running a company, and for whatever reason, you can only invest your time and energy in improving one of the dimensions. Which one would you choose to invest in, motivation or strategy? State your choice and a couple of points from the reading to support your decision.
