Assignment:
Read this Ethical Dilemma:
Anna is a social worker at a small rural mental health agency. Her client, Thomas, has been seeing her for counseling related to managing grief after the sudden death of his spouse.
Thomas is nearing the end of therapy.
Thomas sees Anna out and invites her to attend his upcoming art exhibit as a friend, not as his therapist. He expresses gratitude for her support and mentions.
How much it would mean to have her there. Attending the event might strengthen the therapeutic relationship, but it also risks crossing professional boundaries.
Anna is aware that accepting this invitation could create a dual relationship, which is discouraged by the NASW Code of Ethics. However, refusing the invitation may negatively impact Thomas's perception of her support and potentially hinder his therapeutic progress
