• History - The history of the area and how it relates to their food choices. Has it been influenced by changes in leadership and/or being conquered by other civilizations that changed or influenced their cuisine? When did this area undergo the agricultural revolution?

• Ecology - How has ecology played a part in establishing the region's cuisines and cultures? What grows naturally in this region before Columbian Exchange? When did they adopt agriculture? What is the climate and how does it influence what can be grown? Do they have to import their food or do they export a lot of what they grow?

• Food Origins - Where did the popular ingredients originate? How long has this region been using these ingredients? Are they native to this area or not? If not, where did they originate? And how did they get to this area? How did the Columbian Exchange influence their cuisine?

• Food System - Do they practice industrial farming? Organic farming? Do they have any legal/ restrictions on pesticide use, etc? Do they use CMOs? How do they treat their animals? How much meat do they consume or are they vegetarians? Do they eat a lot of processed foods? Do they eat out or cook in?
