Assignment:

Imagine you are a teacher from 1945 - 1960. Your life circumstances are as they are now - in regards to family life and disposable income. You teach for a small school district in Missouri, which is a state which is still referred to as "the northernmost part of the south". The civil rights movement and segregation are important current events of your time. How would you address these issues with your students? What would you tell them about segregation and the civil rights movement? Would you discuss these aspects of current events at all? What repercussions, if any, would you be willing to risk if your position offended the segregationist on your local school board? If you are unwilling to risk any repercussions, presume you would have remained silent during this time period. Justify this position of silence, providing a well thought out, logical argument for your inaction.
