Suppose you want to measure the iron content of a sample of water run-off. A 25.0 mL sample was acidified with nitric acid and then treated with excess KSCN to form a red complex that can be analyzed with spectroscopy. The solution was then diluted to 100.0 mL and placed in a cuvet with a path length of 2.48 cm. For comparison, a 10.0 mL reference sample of 6.80 x 10-4 M Fe3+ was also treated with nitric acid and KSCN and diluted to 50.0 mL and placed in a cuvet with a 1.00 cm path length. If both solutions gave the same abs value, what was the concentration of iron in the water run-off sample? The answer should be: 2.19 x 10^-4 M
