Discussion 1: respond to this: This week's discussion board question asks what types of pollutants cause deterioration to vehicle paint, luster, and integrity within the oil and gas production industry. The oil and gas production industry is a large producer of methane emissions as well as VOC's and ozone (EPA, 2019).

Discussion 2: What we learned from this week's reading is that the appearance and durability of paints are affected by natural weathering processes. Paint weathering is accelerated by environmental factors such as moisture, temperature, sunlight, and fungi. These natural weathering processes can then be greatly sped up by pollutants such as acids and ozone within the air. Air pollutants can affect the durability of paint on the vehicles by promoting chalking, discoloration, loss of gloss, erosion, blistering, and peeling (Godish, Davis, & Fu, 2014).
