Topic: The State of the Rental Market and the Housing Crisis in Australia

Task

Deliver an in-class oral presentation (on the same topic chosen for Assessment 2) of no more than 7 minutes duration supported by at least 10 slides designed by generative AI.

Assessment Description

In this assessment, students will use the research and recommendations they developed in their Assessment 2 Report and Research Summary to deliver an individual presentation with AI generated slide design.

Assessment Instructions

Oral presentation

The aim of the presentation is to use research from the Assessment 2 report to deliver a highly engaging oral presentation.

The presentation is to be based on the same topic chosen for Assessment 2. However, the content of the report will need to be reworked into a presentation format. It will not be sufficient to simply present the same report on your slides. Students must pull out the main arguments and most persuausive bits of research to present a summary of the report's findings in a well structured, succinct and engaging oral presentation. The presentation should not go for more than 7 minutes. Penalties will apply for students who go 30 seconds over or under the time limit.

Students will use the feedback received from their Assessment 2 to further guide their research and refine their arguments. Students should follow the presentation structure and techniques covered in the Weeks 10 workshop.

Generative AI slide design

Students will practice using generative AI to design at least 10 highly engaging slides to be used as visual aids for their presentation.

Students can use either Gamma or Canva to design their slides. In both cases the free version of the application will be sufficient for the task.

Students must watch the following tutorials on how to create AI generated slides. Students will be given some time in class in week 9 to have a go at each application and ask questions.

Students must not put whole paragraphs of text on their slides but pull out the main points, headings and data to help support what they will present verbally.

Students must insert at least 4 screenshots that evidence their generative AI use at the end of their slide deck. The screenshots must include evidence of the prompts used to create images, infographics or visual aids or slide design. Students must also reference their AI use in the reference list at the end of their slide deck.

Reflection on AI use for slide generation (7 marks)

At the end of their presentation, students will be asked to reflect on their use of generative AI to design their slides. They should speak for no longer than 30 seconds to 1 minute (this is included in the total 7 minutes) and should reflect on the following:

what they found challenging when designing their slides using generative AI
what they found useful or timesaving when designing their slides using generative AI
what advice they would give anyone using the specific generaitve AI tool in the future

Note: students should be specific about exactly which tools worked well/badly. It is important that students show specifically what they learned through this design process.
