Mary is the CEO of XYZ health system that has forwarded an article 2020's a bust, but HIPAA enforcement is on a roll (2020)regarding recent violations of the HITECH Act and subsequent settlements. Mary has expressed a concern about the violations in which Orthopedic Clinic in Atlanta, GA pays $1.5 million to settle systemic noncompliance with HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules and Anthem and 43-State Coalition reach $39.5 million settlement over data breach.

Mary has asked Sarah's department to discuss the violations in relation to the HITECH Act and in particular, the Breach Notification Rule. At the end of the discussion, Mary plans to review the department's dialog in order to gain a better understanding of the HITECH Act, breach notification requirements, and all department recommendations in the unfortunate event of a health system violation.
