Assignment:
IDS 105 provided a meaningful educational experience that helped me better understand cultural awareness, diversity, social justice, and effective communication methods. My initial objective for this course was to develop stronger communication skills that would benefit me in both academic and professional environments. I now realize that cultural awareness, combined with empathy, serves as a vital tool for navigating our multicultural world.
The most significant lesson for me was learning the importance of welcoming viewpoints different from my own. Practicing cultural awareness encourages me to reflect before making assumptions, a skill that will help me manage relationships effectively in both school and work. I will use these skills to handle conflicts respectfully and patiently by actively listening to others before responding. My approach to conflict will be solution-focused, which will help improve my relationships with others.
The knowledge I gained in this course will guide me throughout my academic work at SNHU. I will welcome feedback from instructors and peers, viewing it as an opportunity for growth rather than criticism. Feedback is an essential learning tool, and this course taught me how to accept and analyze feedback from others constructively.
In my future online courses, I aim to build community bonds through respectful and thoughtful communication with my classmates. The virtual environment does not diminish the power of clear, empathetic communication in creating a positive learning space. By asking clarifying questions, offering support, and participating in discussions with kindness, I will help foster a collaborative online classroom environment.
Communication is essential when navigating conflict. This course demonstrated that conflicts present opportunities to gain deeper understanding when approached with restorative practices and empathy. By remaining composed, listening attentively, and communicating respectfully, I will be able to manage conflicts effectively in academic settings and beyond.
SNHU offers many resources that will support me throughout my academic journey. The Shapiro Library, tutoring services, and academic advising are essential tools that will help me succeed. Asking for help is a proactive step toward achieving my goals, not a sign of weakness. Reaching out for support at crucial moments will keep me on track and help me overcome obstacles during my academic journey.
The knowledge and skills I gained in IDS 105 will continue to be valuable to me beyond this course. The opportunity to reflect on my identity, values, and communication habits has been incredibly beneficial, and I will carry these lessons with me throughout my academic and professional development.
