Question

Adult trauma survivors had to learn survival techniques early on in life. They may not have known what a safe environment was like and had to be in survival mode all of the time. Along with that, they had to be overly aware of their surroundings because they might never have known when danger was going to strike. (Kimble et al., 2014). They often had to stay in fight or flight mode, which made their nervous system remain this way. Remaining on alert and ready for fleeing or confronting danger, they were always ready for whatever would come. However, as they age this can be problematic because he/she remains stuck in survival mode and they do not let their guard down, even when the situation is safe (National Library of Medicine, 2015). Their nervous system does not distinguish between safe and dangerous situations.
