This mini-task consists of two parts: in Part A you will interpret SPSS output for Cross-Tabulation and in Part B you will perform analysis in SPSS yourself.

Question A

The following statistical output (SPSS) was produced by a market researcher:

  1. Provide analysis of the statistical output. Your analysis should contain the formulation of null hypothesis that you will test. Use 95% confidence level in your analysis.
  2. What other levels of significance exist? How would your conclusions change if you apply more or less strict significance level?
  3. Discuss why it is important to assess the minimum number of observed and expected counts in cross-tabulation.

Question B

You should be familiar from previous mini-task with Internet Usage SPSS dataset. Using the data about Internet Usage, answer the following questions.

  1. Create cross-tabulation with original variables Familiarity (familiar) and Gender (sex). What problem do you see and why? Hint: read the warning about expected counts.
  2. Recode variable Familiarity into two groups (low and high). How do you suggest to group original variable? Hint: to perform recoding go to Transform - Recode into Different Variables... You can also watch this instructional video (or make your own search on YouTube) how to perform recoding in SPSS.
  3. Perform analysis with recoded Familiarity variable and Sex (you will have 2x2 table) and interpret the results. For sample interpretation refer to file Help: Cross-Tab Data Analysis posted in Week 9 main page or below. In your answer you should include screenshots from SPSS output.
