The dominant culture is a culture that is the most powerful, widespread, or influential within a society where multiple cultures are present. In such a society this dominant culture would refer to the established language, religion, values, rituals, and social customs. They form the norms for the society as a whole.
The dominant culture is what the social institutions of a society are established upon such as educational institutions, artistic expression, laws and political processes and institutions. The dominant culture tends to be resilient and will continue to exist despite changes that may be taking place in the society.
Question: Jamaica's culture has been influenced by the contributions made by different ethnic groups (British, Africans, Chinese, Indians, Tainos etc.). Which of these groups has had the greatest influence on our culture and whose legacy could be seen as the dominant culture of Jamaica? Explain
Culture is not static. It is dynamic and fluid. It is ever changing; ever evolving and there are many factors that will influence its evolution.
