Working conditions in the early 1900s were poor by any standard. The growth of unions did bring some changes. Using chapters 18 and 21 from your text, research general labor unions and discuss how they affected laws, politics, and helped bring about change. Then research unions in your own career field.

Write a 600 word essay citing at least two sources, in which you discuss the rise of labor unions, politics, business response, and the role of unions and labor movements in your own career field. How did unions arise? Why were they so important? What were the major impacts of unions?

Consider your ultimate career goal. What kind of working conditions will you have? Does your future career have a union? Should it? Why or why not?
