Need a robust talk track for this for a presentation: Hilliard had to answers the questions "What kind of community do we want Hilliard to be," and "What do we want Hilliard to be 10 - 20 years from now."The City Council, City Boards and Commissions as well as City Staff use a comprehensive community plan to make policy decisions regarding future intelligent growth, development, transportation and infrastructure. There are maps that recommend where and how the City wants to use land. That plan provides the foundation for all the City's budgeting processes, zoning ordinances and land development regulations. The City of Hilliard launched a process called Hilliard by Design in 2021. The Comprehensive Plan calls for many different housing types and price points to meet the community's changing needs. Such an approach would make Hilliard an accessible place for families, young adults, empty nesters and seniors. Some prefer single-family homes within our many existing subdivisions. Others want something more urban with home, work and restaurants/retail all within walking distance. Both research and community input show Hilliard needs these different kinds of housing. The city along with the board members that were designated to work on this came up with 8 Big Ideas Focus Growth Inward Create more mixed-use, walkable places Become a trail town Expand Opportunities for walking and biking Reimagine Cemetery Road Encourage mixed-use development around premium office sites.
