A square member is composed of a 12 inlong. 1 sq in area steel core with Young's modulus=29*10^6 psi andthermal expansion coefficient of 6.5*10^-6 /deg F; this is bondedto a brass shell that is 1/4 in thick with Young's modulus=15*10^6psi and thermal expansion coefficient of 11.6*10^-6 /deg F; what isthe max increase in temp if the stress in the steel core can notexceed 8000 psi? I get 42.46 deg F, but the back of the book saysdifferent (137.8 deg F)
