Question 1: What is your opinion on procedural justice? You buy the research that claims procedural justice improves PCR even when criminal justice outcomes are negative? If a police officer used procedural justice while they pulled you over, searched your person, searched your car, and then ultimately just let you go - how would you feel about the police? Do you agree about the "universal truths" related to Verbal Judo from the lecture and your book (Chapter 13)? How much do you think police officers currently use Verbal Judo and/or procedural justice? Should they use it more? Less? Why? If more, how could we actually make that happen? If less, what are some of the reasons such practices aren't as important in your mind?

Question 2: What are some of the current strategies/best practices that police departments are using to improve police-community relations? Which of these practices do you think is the most likely to be successful? Why? As a civilian, which practices would you like to see the police use the most in your community? Are those practices different than the ones you think are most likely to be successful? Why? Imagine that you are a police officer - which practices would you prefer to use in your beat? Are those practices different than the ones you think are most likely to be successful? Why? What are some other possible strategies that the police might use to improve police-community relations?

Question 3: When it comes to police-community relations, who is the most responsible for improving that relationship - the police or the community? Why? Most of the focus has always been on what the police need to do, but what can the community do to help improve police-community relations? Have you ever participated in any efforts to get to know your local law enforcement agencies/officers? Have you ever participated in any efforts to help build the police-community relations? Why or why not? How can we get community members to participate more?
