A steel wire has a linear density of 50.0 g/m. It is under a tension of 800 N. One end is tied to an oscillating source which sends waves down the string. The oscillator vibrates with a frequency of 400 Hz and an amplitude of 2.00 mm. Let us de ne x = 0 to be at the end of the string attached to the oscillator. At t = 0 the oscillator is at the lowest point in its vibration. (a) What is the wavelength of the waves produced on the wire? (b) Write the displacement, D(x; t), for this string.
