Assignment:

This week facilitate an interview with a trauma/crisis provider from your jurisdiction. The goal of this assignment is to locate a provider and learn more about what it is they do daily. If there is not a live trauma/crisis provider in the area, complete a mock interview using the same questions below that would use a live interview. However, rely on research to inform mock interview responses. If a live expert can be contacted, interviews may be conducted in person at the trauma/crisis facility or virtually via video conference or telephone. Please indicate whether an actual interview or whether its a mock interview. (I want a mock interview only) based on Florida guidelines if possible but not necessary.

Ask your expert questions about the following:

1. What types of services are provided at your facility? Do you personally provide all of them, or are there different professionals with varied expertise?
2. What is the organizational structure? For example, is it a hospital-type facility, or do the providers go to the site of the crisis (e.g., first responders)?
3. What type and level of education and training do providers at your facility need? Are there any special certifications either required or recommended? Do you need a license issued by the state to perform trauma/crisis-related services? If so, what is the licensure requirement?
4. What type of stress is experienced in the profession? Are there peak seasonal stress periods? What are work hours like? What, if any, services are provided to staff to mitigate personal stress, burnout, and/or compassion fatigue?
