Initially, a swift-moving hawk is moving due west (in the -x direction) with a speed of 60 m/s; 5.0 s later it is moving due north (in the +y direction) with a speed of 25 m/s. (a) What are the magnitude and direction of v(ave) during this 5.0 s interval? What is the direction in degrees from the +x-axis? (b) What are the magnitude and direction of a(ave) during this 5.0 s interval? What is the direction in degrees from the +x-axis? I have already set up this question so that Vi=-60m/s and Vf=25m/s to give the velocity vector V=25i+60j. This yields a correct magnitude of 65m/s. The average acceleration was set up similarly except each component divided by 5(time interval) to give a vector a=5i+12j. The real issue now is finding the angle from the +x-axis. I tried Tan-1(60/25) plus 180 but no dice. What am I doing wrong?
A vector {vec A} has a magnitude of 40.0 {rm m} and points in a direction 20.0 ^circ below the positive x axis. A second vector, {vec B}, has the magnitude of 75.0 {rm m} and points in a direction 50.0 ^circ above the positive x axis.
A uniform metal rod, with a mass of 3.3 and a length of 1.4 , is attached to a wall by a hinge at its base. A horizontal wire bolted to the wall 0.59 above base of the rod holds the rod at an angle of 25 above the horizontal. The wire is attached ..

A 3 m long rigid beam with a mass of 115 kg is supported at each end. An 60 kg student stands 2 m from support 1. How much upward force does each support exert on the beam.
A point P is on a rim of a wheel of radius 2.0m. At time t=0 wheel is at rest and P is on the x-axis. The wheel undergoes a uniform angular acceleration of 0.01 rad/s2 about the center O. Find out the time t, when P returns to an original position on..
Suppose one gallon of gasoline produces 1.1 multiplied by 108 J of energy, and this energy is enough to operate a particular car for 26 miles.
On a dry day, just after washing your hair to remove natural oils and drying it thoroughly, run a plastic comb through it. Small bits of paper will be attracted to the comb. Explain why.
A penny sits on a rotating disk that rotates once every 0.9 s. The coefficients of static and kinetic friction between the penny and disk are 0.58 and 0.48, respectively. For the penny to not slide, what is its largest distance from the center of the..
A 1.63 kg block of ice is sliding by you on a very slippery floor at m/s. As it goes by, you give it a kick perpendicular to its path. Your foot is in contact with ice block for 0.005 seconds. The block eventually slides at the angle of 24 degre..
estimate the average power output on the way up. A speedboat moving at 39 m/s approaches a no-wake buoy marker 100 m ahead. The pilot slows the boat with a constant acceleration of -3.15m/s2 by reducing the throttle.
