"So, What is Personality"
Read chapters 1-3 of your text with special attention given to chapter 1. "Personality is the unique, relatively enduring internal and external aspects of a person's character that influence behavior in different situations (Schultz & Schultz, 2017, p.6)." How has your background influenced your own personality? How has your family, culture and life situation impacted the development of your personality?
Schultz, D. P. & Schultz, S. E.. (2017). Theories of personality. Cengage Learning
The person I am is the product of my past experiences. The face of the world I encountered throughout my life becomes imprinted into my subconscious, controlling how I perceive, relate, and negotiate through my present encounters (Schultz & Schultz, 2017). The way I speak, act, react, and respond to life situations depends on my encounters in my past experiences and my personality. My background and how I grew up played a key role on how my personality is. The things I have been through and the lessons I have learned molded me into this person.
I recall people commenting that I am too soft and accommodating. They even insinuate that I understand so much to my disadvantage. I grew up in a family with all kinds of intrigues. I evaluated all situations, coupled with my joining religion at an early age, and I believe my intellectual capacity sought to understand my relatives and find the best way forward. I would confront my seniors cordially, seeking answers to the ongoing. My personality tends to empathize, understand, and look for amicable solutions. Such was evident in class, holding leadership roles all through yet adopting different leadership from the typical bullish styles. My background too emphasized Godly living. It has influenced all my actions and reactions to date.
I believe personality is a function of society. The actions are wrought by the community one lives in whenever one gets from the parents' genetic inheritance. Therefore, I ascribe to societal tenets even though I need to do it differently. For instance, I would like to sleep on Sunday, yet I am convinced that I owe something to my maker, a quality from society. Therefore, I oblige and go to church. My whole being, personality, and belief system emanate from my society's background, shaping my relations, spirituality, and working and living mannerisms.

Good evening class,
This week's discussion was remarkably interesting to cover. Being able to read over chapters one thru three really allowed me to understand the importance of someone's personality. Being able to read over the importance of why we should care about our personality, covering what psychoanalysis means, and reading what Carl Jung talks about relating to analytical psychology. I gained a lot of insight and learned unbelievably valuable information. "The unique, relatively enduring internal and external aspects of a person's character that influence behavior in different situations." (Schultz, D. P., and Schultz). I do feel that my background has had a huge influence on my personality. With my parents, siblings, friends, and atmosphere, there have been many things that have influenced me. I do feel that a lot of things influence our personalities by who and what we surround ourselves with. Growing up, my parents were incredibly positive people who went to church very often. My parents were also very invested in music as well. The development of my personality comes from being surrounded by music, a few positive people, and around the church. As I get older, I realize that our personalities change over the years as well. I do feel that getting older changes personalities because you get to experience different types of people and situations in life. The beauty in personalities is knowing that everyone is not the same. Personality makes a person who they really are and also defines who they are. "Environmental factors, such as upbringing, culture, geographic location, and life experiences, greatly influence our personality. For example, a child raised in a harmonious environment may have a more positive or calm outlook and disposition" (Gail, 2022). After reviewing this article, I was able to gain more information and insight on what effects our personality. Who we surround ourselves makes a major difference in who we are as people. The beauty of having a personality is that you are able to make decisions to make sure what influences it or not.
