1. How do some of the environmental movements we learned about both in the United States and abroad fight for their goals? What power do they draw on and what tactics do they use? Draw on at least 3 actual environmental movements in your answer and describe what they are fighting for and what they are up against. What do you think is required for David to win against Goliath?

2. What is disembedding (as described by Capek)? Under what conditions does it happen? Do you think Aldo Leopold's "Land Ethic" or the indigenous land ethics we've read about can challenge the negative consequences of disembedding and our current mode of organizing economy and society? 3. What is a "risk society"? What are the role of scientists and science in the risk society? What do you think Rachel Carson would have to say about the idea of a risk society based on her research that resulted in Silent Spring?
