Assignment - Role of Accounting Information Systems
Task - West Plus are an accounting firm located in Broome, Western Australia. They have a large client base spread across Western Australia, from Kununurra to Warburton to Carnarvon. The Partnership Team have researched Cloud Accounting and would like to transition as many of their clients as possible to a Cloud Based Accounting System. At present, all of the firm's clients use more traditional accounting systems where their accounting software is located on computers within their offices. When it is time for West Plus to review the accounting files and prepare financial advice and / or tax returns, clients backup their accounting data and email the file to the firm.
Given the large geographic distance between the West Plus office in Broome and a large number of their clients, the Partnership Team are unable to present this concept to all the firms' clients. Jacqui, the Managing Partner, has asked you to prepare a Voice over PowerPoint (VOPP) presentation to be sent to West Plus's clients covering the following:
1. What is Cloud Accounting?
2. Why would West Plus's clients benefit from a transition to a Cloud Accounting System, in comparison to the traditional systems they currently use?
3. What are the potential limitations associated with using a Cloud Accounting system, including how West Plus will address each of these to minimize the impact on clients.
Rationale - This assessment task will assess the following learning outcome/s:
- be able to understand and apply foundation principles relating to computerized information systems in contemporary organisations.
- be able to analyse, synthesise and apply the concepts underpinning systems planning development and implementation
Your presentation should provide a clear and concise definition; analyses at least four (4) key relevant benefits; and discusses key limitations and how they will be addressed.
