Assignment:

Complete one observation/assessment using the video option below or conduct an observation in your program for a child between 6 weeks- 6 years old.

Select one observation method (K-W-L, anecdotal, running record, time or event sample) to use during the observation. Complete the observation using the selected method.

Fill out these questions based on the video and observation:

1. What is the child able to do for each of the domains of development?
2. Provide at least one objective observation for each domain of development.
3. Describe at least one (1) of your state learning standards (developmental outcome) and how it is witnessed in your observation.
4. After reading and considering the DAP Guidelines for Observation and Assessment, determine at least two ways the observation and assessment method aligned with the Guidelines. Incorporate specific examples from the observation notes.
5. Identify one part of the observation and assessment process that could be improved to align with the DAP Guidelines for Observation and Assessment. Describe one suggestion you can do next time to improve alignment to the Guidelines.
6. Specifically address how cultural and language considerations might need to be incorporated into the observation practice. Describe how the chosen observation method might need to support cultural and language differences with children you might observe? Offer one suggestion for what you can do next time to improve in this area.
7. Determine which ethical considerations you need to include for future observations. Describe how the chosen observation method supports or does not support ethical assessment practice? Offer one suggestion for what your can do next time to improve in this area.
