In the fall of 2012, Hurricane Sandy forced a full evacuation of NYU Langone Medical Center in New York City, with extensive damage done to several clinical units and departments. Prior to this crisis, the institution-which included NYU Medical School and several teaching hospitals-had been on an upward performance trajectory for several years under the leadership of Dr. Robert Grossman. One of Grossman's key initiatives prior to 2012 was the creation of an information technology dashboard for the entire medical center. This case considers the development of this dashboard and the role it played in preparing NYU respond to the unprecedented crisis presented by the hurricane.
