Jones, a citizen of the state of Illinois, alleged that he was subjected to illegal race discrimination by his employer, R. R. Donnelley & Sons Co. Three years later, Jones wishes to file a lawsuit against R. R. Donnelley pursuant to the Civil Rights Act of 1991, which is a federal statute. Under federal law, the statute of limitations for this type of lawsuit is four years. The state of Illinois, however, has a two-year statute of limitations.
