Question: In this video a caller that had set himself up significantly well called for advise on borrowing against his 401k to pay off debt. Dave suggested that if he wanted to borrow at a rate of 35% then sure. He was being sarcastic and advised against this. He stated that because the caller had already paid off all debt with the exception of rent and a medical bill, he should start attacking his student loan debt with a vengance, and he could have it paid within two years or less. Dave gave some practical advise on how to either stop doing extra stuff and utilize that time to make money by either freelancing or getting another job, and selling things that he really didn't need to help drive the bill down faster. I have borrowed from my 401k to help with student tuition for my son in order for him to not have to get too many student loans. I understand what he says when he talks about getting penalized for withdrawing early. what is a good response to this post?
