The year is 1840 and you live with your family just outside a major city on the eastern seaboard. Your spouse has decided to move your family west and has asked your opinion of where to go: Iowa or Texas.

Now you are a proud American who supports the concept of Manifest Destiny.

But this decision will take some serious thought and you'll need to truly convince your spouse that you are moving to the best place for your family.

While each requires a long and treacherous journey, which area do you suggest? What does that land offer that your current home does not?

What dangers might you face either along the way or once you arrive in your new home? Do you agree that moving west is a good idea?

Taking into account the political, economic, and emotional aspects of this decision, write a 3 page letter to your spouse making the case for moving to either Texas or Iowa in the year 1840. In your letter, be sure to explain what attracts you to one region, and why you do not wish to live in the other region.

You may choose to be a resident of any of the original 13 states and should demonstrate how being a native of that state might influence your decision.

It's all your own words, no sources.
