Question - Environmental Compliance Discussion

Option 1 - Environmental Compliance:

Our readings make clear that business activity is one of the main drivers of both increased CO2 emissions and environmental degradation more generally. There have been many arguments made that businesses should be doing more to address both climate change, and other challenges to the natural environment. That said, in the current system, international businesses are only obligated to comply with the local laws/regulations where they operate. In your opinion what should motivate international businesses to go beyond the minimum of local compliance with environmental regulations? Develop a response that clearly presents your position and is supported by data and/or real world examples.

Option 2 - Motivating Circular Business Models:

We have read a lot about the circular economy and the potential benefits this form of radical efficiency has for both businesses and the natural environment. That said, we need to recognize that circular companies are very rare, and movements toward becoming circular are still on the fringes of global business. Considering both the potential benefits as well as the very real costs and challenges in becoming a circular business, what do you think should be the primary motivators for business leaders to move their companies toward the circular economy? Your response should be based on our readings and any other research you choose to do, and should look at the range of factors that could cause a business to want to be circular.
