Homework: Vision Board

A vision board is a tool used to help clarify and maintain focus on specific goals. Your vision board should contain images representing both short- and long-term goals such as what you want to accomplish during your academic career at and after graduation. It may also contain words or phrases affirming your goals and future.

As a student you will find yourself balancing academics, working at a full-time or part-time job, and spending time with family and friends.

A vision board serves as a tool for busy students to help you:

1) Identify and clarify your goals
2) Reinforce daily affirmations
3) Focus your attention on your goals and overcome distractions and barriers

The power of vision boards comes from their constant presence in one's life. A reminder, a whisper to bring one back to what is important, a concrete image of what lies in store for us in the future. You will get the most out of the vision board if you create something with intention, focus and deliberation, and look at it often. After all, this is your future you are representing in visual form.

Part A: Vision Board

Directions

I. Decide on the format for your vision board. Do you want to create a digital version of your vision board as a PowerPoint slide or Word document to be printed out and hung? Do you want to create a vision board by cutting images from magazines-most libraries have a cart of old ones and even doctor offices, using printed images from the internet, using stickers, or drawing images yourself? Do you want to create a vision item such as a basketball or a graduation cap that represents a goal to use as the backdrop to apply your images?

II. Select the images, words, stickers, and other items for your vision board. As you consider selecting images and quotes to include on your vision board, consider the list below intended to spark mental images of your values, aspirations, and goals for your future.

1. What are my short-term goals?
2. What are my long-term goals?
3. What new activities am I interested in trying?
4. What are my values?
5. If I were granted one wish, it would be...
6. If I were not afraid, I would....
7. What am I passionate about?
8. What do I dream about for my future?
9. What do I like about my current job?
10. What do I like to do for fun?

Do not forget to include images that you are drawn to without really knowing why. The meaning behind the image can unfold over time as

you regularly reflect on your vision board.

I. Make it. Arrange and apply your selected items so they are visually appealing and neat on your vision board/item.

II. Submit your vision board to Canvas. Depending on how you elected to create your vision board, upload a file or jpeg photo of your vision board to Canvas.

III. Display your vision board. Find a place to display your vision board so you will see it multiple times every day.
