Question: The family structure resembles the Linux directory and file structure, and each of its elements. In this activity, you will examine permissions and security in terms of what that would look like in a family.

On paper, design a directory and file structure for a family unit. Your group should decide on the number and type of family members before beginning. The family members resemble your users. You have two groups-children and parents. The brothers and sisters are members of the children group. The mother and/or father belong to the parents' group. The family can also be viewed as a directory and file structure. It would look something like this:

family
children
child1 name
personal_information (e.g. last-name, first-name, dob, age in the file)
child2 name
child3 name
parents
parent1 name
parent2 name
You want to keep information in the files as personal as possible. You do not want the children to have access to any of the parents' information. You do not want your group to have permission on your personal_information.

As a group, discuss the following:

What permissions would you set for each folder for the user and for the group, if you want only members of your group to access your directory?
What permissions would you set for each file for the user and for the group, if you want only members of your group to access your files?
Show what it would look like if you did an ls -l on your directories.
What groups would you have? Who are the members of each group?
Do the parents need to be members of your children group? Why or why not? What would happen if parents are not members of the children group?
What commands would you use to create each directory, each group, each file?
What commands would you use to create the permissions on each directory and file?
