Question: Address what you think is the best tone, channel, and communication pattern to communicate in the scenario described. What tone should the sender adopt (firm, assertive, positive, neutral, etc)? What channel should they use to communicate (email, face-to-face, phone call)? Should they use the indirect or direct method for this message?
Case Study: In this scenario, the General Manager of a local car dealership is confirming the plans of a total interior makeover to his Sales, Parts, Service and Finance Managers via email. The General Manager is instructing all of the above managers to contact their staff, advising them of the upcoming renovations. Sales and Finance offices will be temporarily relocated to the north side of the showroom while the south side is under constructions starting on January 4th, 2024 at 8:00am with a planned completion of the the south side showroom by February 18th, 2024. At this point, Sales and Finance will return to their permanent locations and construction will begin on the north end of the showroom. Parts and Service will be temporarily relocated to the south side of the showroom as of February 20th, 2024 at 8:00am. Planned completion for north side renovations is April 12th, 2024. During this time, the customer wait area will be relocated to a temporary out-structure. The plan is to minimize customer movement within the building due to the inability to provide an adequate wait area during the time of renovation. This scenario would be classed as a downward internal communication as it is being spoken by the General Manager down the chain of command within the workplace.
