Case Analysis: Doug Scott, Truck Group Marketing Manager at Ford Motor Company

Case Analysis

In completing this activity, you will demonstrate the ability to analyze a case and draw lessons for leadership practice.

Read the Leader in Action, "Doug Scott, Truck Group Marketing Manager at Ford Motor Company". Then, respond to the following:

• Which influence tactics can you infer that Doug Scott uses in his leadership role?

• What career lessons might be taken away from this story about Scott?

Be certain to integrate the readings and research from the online library to support your opinions. You must cite your sources in text and include multiple references in addition to the textbook for your initial response and your replies.

Post your primary response.

Respond to two or more of your colleagues' postings in one or more of the following ways:

• Address a colleague's analysis and evaluation of the topic(s).
• Expand or remark upon a colleague's integration of relevant resources.
• Answer question(s) posed by your colleague(s) for further discussion.
• Link a colleague's posting to other postings or to course materials and concepts, where appropriate and relevant.
• Extend or constructively challenge your colleagues' work.

Leadership Learning Journal: Part 2

You completed one Leadership Learning Journal in Module 3. You will complete the second Journal in this assignment. As before, write an analytical paper based on the self-assessments completed in Modules 4 to 7. Keep the following in mind when writing the paper:

• Integrate the reading, reflection, discussion, and writing for the module.
• Analyze what you have learned about yourself as a leader and how you can apply the learning in your workplace now and in the future.
• Relate the course content to your work experience.
• Apply critical thought and integrate learning from the various self-assessments. Do not write a chapter-by-chapter summary.

The paper should be about one to two pages and must adhere to APA formatting requirements. In-text citation and a reference page are required. Make sure to proofread carefully. Grammar and spelling errors will impact the grading. Include a reference to the text on your summary as you are relating your learning to the material read.

Compose your work in a .doc or .docx file type using a word processor (such as Microsoft Word, etc.) and save it frequently to your computer. For those assignments that are not written essays and require uploading images or PowerPoint slides, please follow uploading guidelines provided by your instructor.

BUSINESS CHECK-IN ACTIVITY:

In Module 8, our final module, you will be creating a narrated presentation for the board and stakeholders in your process improvement plan. You will also be putting together your final presentation. Here is your opportunity, before we enter our final week, to ask any questions related to the final project submission and presentation. Do not wait until next week to ask questions as it will mostly likely be too late.

Your initial post should include:

• Your progress on the project thus far. Have you already compiled it?
• Anything interesting you learned about the organization you chose.
• The most difficult component of this project. What made it challenging? How did you address this challenge?

When responding to your peers:

• Choose someone who found a component that was difficult which was different than your own, and evaluate their strategy of how they dealt with it.

• Improve upon their strategy and provide feedback.

• Consider how you could have applied that strategy or parts of that strategy to your own challenges.

Things to Remember!

1. Post a 2 to 4 paragraph discussion post (300 words minimum). Justify your explanations by including in-text citations and references in APA format as applicable.

2. Post your primary response on the discussion board. Be sure to review your writing for grammar and spelling before posting. Read any postings already provided by your instructor or fellow students.

3. Read and respond to at least two of your classmates. Remember to read the feedback to your own major postings and reply to it throughout the module.

For information about writing your discussion posts, consult Discussion Tips. Be sure to check your work and correct any spelling or grammatical errors before you post it. When you are ready to make your initial posting, please click on the "Create Thread" button, copy/paste the text from your document into the message field and click "Submit."

Use the EC Library resources to properly cite your work:

• APA Format Tip Sheet [PDF, 176.82 KB]
• Citing Sources.

Review the SBT Discussion Rubric located in the "Start Here-Course Information" section of the course for more information on grading criteria. Please review the rubric carefully so you are familiar with the expectations of the activity.

Process Improvement Plan: Action Plan:

In this activity, you will be developing your action plan. Please review the resources in the reading section as they provide specific instructions on how to develop your action plan. The information you will be using to develop your action plan (the budget, the resources, the goals, the time needed, etc.) should come from your previous submissions, with the feedback from your instructor incorporated.

At a minimum your action plan should address:

• What steps are needed in order to complete the plan.
• Who is needed to incorporate these changes.
• When each step will be completed and when the project will be completed.
• What resources (i.e., money, staff) are needed to carry out these changes.
• How communication will be accomplished (Consider your audience, communication channels, legal and ethical considerations, etc.).

Consider using this template from Entrepreneur Media [PDF, 61.91 KB]for your action plan.

Things to Remember!

• Include justification from your research for each of the parts of your marketing plan.
• Incorporate graphics such as tables, graphs, charts, etc. to justify your claims.
• Format following APA guidelines.
