Power companies refused to put down electric poles and string power lines in less settled areas arguing that the expense was far in excess of the potential reward. Federal intervention brought power to the countryside. You mention the idea of a national community but offer little in the way of specifics. Please provide the class with a sense of the music people were listening to, the films they were watching, etc... Fill us in in those things that American shared.
