As a result, the decisional process relied on individuals to synthesize massive amounts of data and try to make the best-informed decisions. The issue arose when a single person could not feasibly process the colossal amounts of information required to make good and reliable decisions. The overwhelming amount of data collected by corporations often leaves executives scratching their heads. AI-based models and software applications can grapple with billions of lines of data and showcase connections within the data that an individual observer may miss otherwise.

Imagine you work at E-City Manufacturing. You are asked to determine the number of machines needed to manufacture various devices. This time you are presented with over 10,000 spreadsheets of data to determine the number of machines to produce smart devices for healthcare facilities. The machines have a lifespan of one to years. Additionally, E-City Manufacturing is having a hard time procuring some of the parts from other countries. Currently, there is a high demand for these devices; however, supply and demand have not been consistent.

Before you make a decision, you will need to consider the following:

1. Depreciation of the equipment
2. Life of the smart device
3. The amount of time the device is used vs. idle time
4. Seasonal influences in demand for equipment
5. Repair costs of machinery
6. Historical and forecasted supply and demand, including seasonality

In this homework, you will have the opportunity to present a BI tool that E-City Manufacturing will implement to help you decide the number of machines needed. Your boss has asked you to put together a proposal of the BI tool, including the reasons why this tool adds value to E-City Manufacturing.
