Case Study
Mr. Brown, a 79-year-old, has just returned to the special care home following a two week stay in the hospital. He had his right hip joint replaced because the arthritis was causing him pain and limiting his activity. He is presently ambulating with a walker and uses a wheelchair for long distances. Mr. Brown is pleased that the surgery and his recovery went smoothly.
Mr. Brown is receiving assistance to get in and out of bed. He is very apprehensive about falling at this time. He stiffens because of this fear which makes the transfer more difficult. What approaches might help the situation?
