Apple iphones and Samsung Android phones are dominating the technology world. The world's top two smartphone makers have spent hundreds of millions of dollars in legal fees on claims of copying each other's features in a global battle to dominate the market.
In the new trial Apple is seeking damages of $2bn, claiming infringement of five patents by Samsung devices sold in the US between 2010 and 2012, including Galaxy smartphones and tablets. Apple also claims that Samsung copied the look, product design, packaging and user interface of its products, violating its patents and trademarks. Samsung is claiming infringement of two of its patents by the iPhone and iPad.
Apple is also in a legal dispute with Microsoft Corp., which is challenging Apple's trademark for the term "app store."
These are ongoing disputes/battles and no settlement or a decision has been made yet. It should be interesting to see what happens in their next settlement trial.
