Assignment:

Topic: Nate Silver's analysis of the problems with the 2016 election polling and media reporting highlight key issues for future political data analysis. While most pundits were wrong in predicting that Hillary Clinton would win, keep in mind that poll findings were generally within the margin of error, so they were generally valid estimates of voter preferences. Also, keep in mind the external factors at play in the last months of the 2016 election, including Comey's statement on Clinton; Wikileaks slow but steady publication of DNC emails; and the extensive but free media coverage that Trump received.

  • What are the key issues from these articles in your opinion?
  • What are the implications for polling data, analysis of demographic groups, and the role of core political beliefs and current events on voting preferences?
