A Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) is a decomposition of a project into smaller, manageable components, making it easier to plan, estimate, and control project activities.

A WBS does this in the following ways:

A. Organizes work into smaller, more manageable components. This helps by understanding the scope of the work and identifying all the tasks that need to be completed.

B. Defines task dependencies - With WBS, the relationship between the different tasks becomes clearer. This allows identification of what tasks need to be performed first before other tasks.

C. Estimates time and resources - With the project being broken down into smaller tasks, it becomes easier to estimate the time and resources needed for each task.

D. Facilitates critical path analysis - This is used to identify the longest path of planned activities to reach the objectives - this is the critical path. It determines the shortest possible project duration.

E. Enables progress tracking by tracking completed tasks against the WBS. This allows project managers to monitor performance, schedule, take corrective actions, if needed, for timely completion of the project.
