Purpose

There are tremendous benefits for a company (and an individual) to be well organized. Students generally know that being better organized usually yields higher grades. Competitiveness is so intense among companies in various industries that being well organized can make the difference between success and failure. This exercise gives you practice critiquing various organizational charts so that improved organizational designs for those companies can be devised

Instructions

Step 1 In this chapter, refer back to three organizational charts that are illustrated: Southwest Airlines, Hershey Foods, and Microsoft. For each chart, identify four shortcomings based on the guidelines presented in this chapter.

Step 2 For one of those companies of your choosing, develop a new and improved organizational chart. Discuss why you believe that your new chart is better for the company.
