Question
Determine what crime, if any, was committed, and explain why you came to that conclusion.
Mary Berry was walking through the aisles of the Superduper Supermarket with her beach bag over her shoulder. The bag did not have a clasp or zipper. Chris Creeper walked up behind her, reached into her open bag, and took out her neon green wallet with a picture of Kermit the Frog on it. As Chris passed Mary, she momentarily thought, "Wow, he has a wallet just like mine." She then came to her senses and looked in her bag to find the wallet gone. She began screaming, "he stole my wallet." Chris ran out of the store before anyone could catch him.
Mary's wallet was worth $17 dollars, and she had $500 cash, and several credit cards inside.
When the police arrived, they asked the store manager to review the video surveillance, which clearly showed Chris reaching into Mary's bag and taking the wallet. It also showed that when he did so, he was carrying a knife in his other hand. Chris was found three days later with Mary's wallet and arrested.
