Consider the following process for the publication of scienti?c book. In order to publish a book, the corresponding author ?rst accesses the house edition web-site and register for a new account or login if already registered. The author submits the manuscript online, which is examined by the Editorial O?ce (EO). An email is sent automatically to acknowledge receipt of the manuscript. The EO sends a copy to the Editor-In-Chief (EIC). The EIC selects an Associate Editor (AE) to be responsible for handling the manuscript and noti?es the EO. The EO sends a copy of the manuscript to the AE. After reading the manuscript, the AE selects two referees who have agreed to review the book. The AE then noti?es the EO. The EO sends a copy of the manuscript to the referees. The refrees review the book and send their report to the EO. The EO forwards the referee reports to the AE. After reading the report of the referee reviews, the AE decides whether the manuscript should be rejected, accepted, or revised. The decision is communicated to the EO. If the manuscript is rejected, the EO sends a letter to the author thanking him for the submission and wishing them good luck getting the manuscript published somewhere else. If the manuscript is accepted, the EO forwards the manuscript to production. The EO noti?es also the author and the EIC. If the manuscript needs revisions, the EO forwards the referee reviews to the author. The author revises the manuscript following the recommendations outlined in the referee reports. The author then resubmits the manuscript to the EO. The EO sends the resubmission directly to the responsible AE. After reading the resubmitted manuscript, the AE decides whether the revised version can now be accepted for publication or needs to be sent to the referees for further reviewing.
